What New Cards Would Be Cool?

29 10 2007

I'm awesomeAs with any card game, there will always be new cards added to the mix to change up strategies. Eye of Judgment will be no different. While changes won’t be a earth shattering as a new element (it would totally change the gameplay) or inserting new types other than creatures and spells, there could be some crazy abilities down the road.

There is already a nice selection of crazy cards. I, personally, have much love for the Cubics who are so unsuspecting but can decide battles if they have the chance to summon something devastating. Battle patterns also keep every square on the field open game at the turn of a card. You have to give credit where credit is due, there is a great system in place already.

Just off the top of my head, I thought that fusion spell cards would be neat to see. Just put a restriction that they have to be the same element and an insane mana cost. Imagine a Biolith Battle Chariot and a Taurus Monolith combined, it would strike fear into the Phantoms.

What do you readers think would be awesome additions? Sign in and post a comment!

The PlayStation Eye Reads PSPs

29 10 2007

PSPThe big topic surrounding EoJ right now is people copying cards off printers and potentially using them in online duels, where they can get away with it and nobody is the wiser. One YouTube user posted a video that takes the shady online play to new heights… or lows depending on how you view it.

Instead of using expensive printer ink, or Crayola felt tip markers, one EoJ player wanted to see if he could get a reading off the PSP’s LCD screen. In the video, you see him with card pictures in his photo album, flipping through his cards. As soon as he places it under the Eye, voila! a Biolith appears from the Sony handheld. It’s a difficult task as you must have specific lighting for the PSP to be read by the Eye, but it can be done.

Of all the methods of cheating, this really doesn’t seem that flagrant. It’d be ultra expensive to have a PSP producing virtual images of cards, and getting the right lighting would be a nightmare while trying to get the official cards to read as well.

Check out the video for yourself and laugh/cry at the PSP EoJ card:

Penny Arcade Shows More EoJ Love

29 10 2007

tourny timeIt looks like this is a good time to be a EoJ tournament goer as another tournament has appeared. This time, from Penny Arcade, forum user Tw4win has a sign up where you can enter this tournament. Right now, there are not any prizes but he said that he was working on getting something hopefully.

If things keep going the way they are, there could be a constant stream of tournaments. While it would be fun to have a physical tournament with players in chairs staring each other down rather than all this online business, this is the next best thing. Ok, enough chit-chat, time to read the rules…

Tournament will begin Wednesday, 10/31/07, 6 PM EST

RULES:

  • 1. Since cards have been difficult to find for some people I’m going to limit this tournament to the starter deck plus one booster deck. Everyone should have that since it came in the initial EOJ package. That means that you must play with the starter deck but it can contain 1 additional rare or ultra rare, 2 additional uncommons, and up to 5 different common cards. Of course, you still need to stick to the 30 card limit. If anyone has any questions regarding what cards came with the starter deck let me know and I’ll post my deck. If your cards don’t match that please let me know beforehand.
  • 2)Tournament sign-ups start now and will end on Wednesday 10/31/07 at 12 PM EST (noon).
  • 3) First round pairings will be posted at 6 PM EST 10/31/07. You will have 48 hours to play your match and report the winner by posting it in the thread. That means that I need all winners of the first round by 6 PM EST 11/02/07. Yes, 48 hours is a long time but I want to give everyone a chance to play. Second round pairings will be posted sometime Friday night or Saturday morning. Again, you’ll have 48 hours to play that round. Future rounds will be posted after that.
  • 4) Prizes – none right now, other than bragging rights. I’ll work on getting something.
  • 5) Relating to #1, I’m not going to ask you to post your deck but if you think someone might be cheating post here. Both of you will be required to post the contents of your deck for verification. It’s a friendly tournament so don’t cheat.
  • 6) Please use voicechat if possible while playing. It’s a social game so be social.
  • 7) Matchmaking for this game isn’t that great so I’ll leave it up to you to figure out how best to schedule and play your games. All I need are results for the first round by Friday 11/2/07 at 6 PM. One suggested way to matchmake is to create a room, invite your opponent, and then close out of the room. Let the other person invite you and enter their room ASAP.
  • Let me know if I’ve forgotten anything. Rules are subject to change until 6 PM, 10/31/07

This sounds like a very cool tournament and if you want to win some bragging rights, head over to the Penny Arcade forums and check out the official tournament post.

(Almost Complete) Card List

29 10 2007

Data for everyone!Good morning!

Today, we open up the news flow with a helpful tool for all your data hungry collectors. PlayStation forum member Sivakis collected most of the current card data and entered it on an Excel spread sheet.

The nearly complete list excludes the Phantom Card’s descriptions but from our brief overview, there are no glaring holes to speak of. On the display page, you use a drop down menu to select your type of card and the information just pops up, like magic. Alternatively, you can check out the complete database Sivakis came up with.

The best part is, every single important piece of information is included. Summon cost, activation cost, rarity, HP, Attack and description/locks are all viewable. It would have been awesome if the cards’ classes would have been included but you can’t argue with what is there. This is a useful tool in deciding how to build a deck if you want to hunt down and cherry pick the perfect combination.

Penny Arcade Comic

29 10 2007

Penny Arcade Gabe and TychoThe Penny Arcade, a well respected source in the gaming world, did a comic on the EoJ since they played it. Reading their posts, they are big fans of the game, which we think that is totally cool (might we add they have good taste in games). Without further ado, prepare your laughing reflex in advance-

Phantom Cards

29 10 2007

Phantoms!Apparently, there are some mysterious cards popping up in booster packs called Phantoms. They have no text, no explanation and nothing marking their status as a Phantom. You have to scan them in with the Eye and see what they summon. Users have reported these summons materialize the “Betrayer” class, which you can only have one of in your deck.

As of right now, there is only one Phantom for each element (Biolith, Wood, Earth, Fire, Water) and they are extremely rare to find. Going off some descriptions of what abilities these guys have, you don’t want to mess with them for long. Due to the rare nature, we don’t have any Phantoms from our own decks to talk about but like everyone else, the search is on like a Wonka golden ticket.
