Booster Watch

13 11 2007

This horse may seem to be beaten to death but the issues are still here — booster packs are harder to come by than a Budweiser at a NASCAR race. The most vocal portion of the community is the Canadian EoJ players. To their credit, booster packs haven’t shown up in stores and Sony or Hasbro haven’t said a word why that is so it is understandable why they would not be happy. I hate to say I played a roll in this by jinxing the community by saying we have been freakishly patient but I forgot to knock on wood from the Juno Forest.  SonicKaos could probably explain the frustration best because he lives in the Great White North.

That’s the reason for the Canadian flag shaped like a heart — to send out love to our brothers and sisters suffering without boosters.

Rumors are flying across the EoJ Community about why that is. Some say production has been halted because of easy-to-print-off cards while others say the supplies are not meeting demands. We don’t know what to believe other than we hope whatever is the problem gets resolved soon.

There isn’t much us consumers can do other than be patient and wait for official word. We’ll let you know the second we hear something.

The Next Direction

8 11 2007

I need to say a huge THANK YOU to SonicKaos for the kind words and public humiliation! Sincerely, it was very nice of you to do that and I thank you.

Now on to EoJ discussion!

There is a decided lack of new EoJ news. Supplies are still tight and boosters are even harder to come by. We hope distribution ramps up and EoJ can have a “second” release, of sorts, with a whole lotta cards. The community is being extremely paitent which is awesome to see. Not everyday does a hardcore fanbase stay low key and wait their turn. You usually see fanboys with foam coming out of their mouths.

Tournaments are becoming a staple of the community. It is awesome to see organizers getting ladders put together when EoJ doesn’t have the best system for setting up matches in a tournament format. One site (which we’ll feature later), in particular, is now going to be doing smaller, weekly tournaments that are gaining popularity.

The next question in my mind is where Eye of Judgment is headed from this point on. The shortages won’t last forever and cheaters will shrivel up and die… eventually. Where does EoJ go from here? Will the community still thrive? When will the new series of cards launch? Will there be a EoJ2? The crystal ball looks fuzzy at this point. The one thing to be sure of is that the fanbase is staying hardcore and strong.

Weekend Warriors

2 11 2007

Friday brings this week to a close and with it, our first week writing MyEyeOfJudgment. Thanks to all the readers that have made the blog already a tremendous success!

This weekend, I know that we’ll be dueling as many people as we can online to rack up my honor points. With it comes more deck building as my current custom deck is almost where I want it (I know of a card right now I need to swap out). SonicKaos is still trying to track down booster packs but he is finally zeroing in on their location.

Best of luck to all you “Judges” out there and many happy wins!

What New Cards Would Be Cool?

29 10 2007

I'm awesomeAs with any card game, there will always be new cards added to the mix to change up strategies. Eye of Judgment will be no different. While changes won’t be a earth shattering as a new element (it would totally change the gameplay) or inserting new types other than creatures and spells, there could be some crazy abilities down the road.

There is already a nice selection of crazy cards. I, personally, have much love for the Cubics who are so unsuspecting but can decide battles if they have the chance to summon something devastating. Battle patterns also keep every square on the field open game at the turn of a card. You have to give credit where credit is due, there is a great system in place already.

Just off the top of my head, I thought that fusion spell cards would be neat to see. Just put a restriction that they have to be the same element and an insane mana cost. Imagine a Biolith Battle Chariot and a Taurus Monolith combined, it would strike fear into the Phantoms.

What do you readers think would be awesome additions? Sign in and post a comment!

(Almost Complete) Card List

29 10 2007

Data for everyone!Good morning!

Today, we open up the news flow with a helpful tool for all your data hungry collectors. PlayStation forum member Sivakis collected most of the current card data and entered it on an Excel spread sheet.

The nearly complete list excludes the Phantom Card’s descriptions but from our brief overview, there are no glaring holes to speak of. On the display page, you use a drop down menu to select your type of card and the information just pops up, like magic. Alternatively, you can check out the complete database Sivakis came up with.

The best part is, every single important piece of information is included. Summon cost, activation cost, rarity, HP, Attack and description/locks are all viewable. It would have been awesome if the cards’ classes would have been included but you can’t argue with what is there. This is a useful tool in deciding how to build a deck if you want to hunt down and cherry pick the perfect combination.

We Decide, You Judge (More Puns in the Comming Weeks)

28 10 2007

first post What we are trying to do here is open up discussion about The Eye of Judgment and how to play the game with different strategies. EoJ is unique in many different ways thanks to the PS3 and online play. So, we want to highlight the deck that is closest to all our hearts… the starter deck!

The first 30 cards you get actually give you a sense of what the game plays like. There are some decent monsters in the pack (Bioliths FTW) and the spell cards can turn the tide of battle in a second. In my experience, you can concoct some crazy strategies just with the cards everyone else has. Let’s just start with the quick impressions that the elements that stood out. The one element I was slightly disappointed by were the Earth monsters. They just didn’t seem as “cool” as the other present and accounted for elements. Maybe it was the generic-ish dwarfs and soldiers? Biolith really made me happy, I like the steampunk look and the devastating attacks of the mid-range monster they give you. Fire has the potential to really impress, I think. The ones that are in the starter show it has some cool physical and magic monster attacks. Plus, the quickness ability of the Hellfire Spitters is extremely useful. Water has some of the coolest looking creatures in the starter deck, even if there are only two varieties to start with. Wood falls into the same category for me as fire. Loads of potential in the future but right now, you can tell it is holding back. Of course, you can expect Wizards and Sony to do their best to even the playing field for all the elements. As it stands with the starter, you can get the feeling that there is much more to expect but let’s face it, some elements will naturally be more popular than others. That will leave a huge opening for some neat strategies from under-used cards.
