Offline Tournaments

We hear about tournaments all the time from readers and other Eye of Judgment sites. However, every-single-one of the them is over the PlayStation Network. Never once have we hear about a physical tournament where you can play face to face with your opponent. Not the case anymore. We just got word that Poland is the home to one of these tournaments.

Game Lord, a store that specializes in collectible trading card game, hosted what looks to be a very successful gathering. The most incredible part is that most of the matches were not played with the aid of the PS3. Yup, that’s right, some matches were analogue. Game Lord used crafty skills with construction paper and dice to make the game playable without the Blu-ray game disc.

The site we are about to link you is Polish so don’t be surprised if you can’t read everything on the pages. The most important thing is that they were having fun and used a bit of old fashioned ingenuity to accommodate more people.

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween card masters! Hope you all get the candy and scares you so desire. Eye of Judgment seems like a good game to play on a holiday like today. Not only does it seem magical, some of the creatures are pretty scary looking.

Anyone out there going to dress up as a creature from Eye of Judgment? Or did the game release too late to throw together a convincing Verzar Foot Soldier costume?

One quick reminder, the Penny Arcade forum is going to be playing their EoJ tournament today and it might not be too late to express some interest and hop in.

Penny Arcade Shows More EoJ Love

It looks like this is a good time to be a EoJ tournament goer as another tournament has appeared. This time, from Penny Arcade, forum user Tw4win has a sign up where you can enter this tournament. Right now, there are not any prizes but he said that he was working on getting something hopefully.

If things keep going the way they are, there could be a constant stream of tournaments. While it would be fun to have a physical tournament with players in chairs staring each other down rather than all this online business, this is the next best thing. Ok, enough chit-chat, time to read the rules…

Tournament will begin Wednesday, 10/31/07, 6 PM EST

RULES:

• 1. Since cards have been difficult to find for some people I’m going to limit this tournament to the starter deck plus one booster deck. Everyone should have that since it came in the initial EOJ package. That means that you must play with the starter deck but it can contain 1 additional rare or ultra rare, 2 additional uncommons, and up to 5 different common cards. Of course, you still need to stick to the 30 card limit. If anyone has any questions regarding what cards came with the starter deck let me know and I’ll post my deck. If your cards don’t match that please let me know beforehand.

• 2)Tournament sign-ups start now and will end on Wednesday 10/31/07 at 12 PM EST (noon).

• 3) First round pairings will be posted at 6 PM EST 10/31/07. You will have 48 hours to play your match and report the winner by posting it in the thread. That means that I need all winners of the first round by 6 PM EST 11/02/07. Yes, 48 hours is a long time but I want to give everyone a chance to play. Second round pairings will be posted sometime Friday night or Saturday morning. Again, you’ll have 48 hours to play that round. Future rounds will be posted after that.

• 4) Prizes – none right now, other than bragging rights. I’ll work on getting something.

• 5) Relating to #1, I’m not going to ask you to post your deck but if you think someone might be cheating post here. Both of you will be required to post the contents of your deck for verification. It’s a friendly tournament so don’t cheat.

• 6) Please use voicechat if possible while playing. It’s a social game so be social.

• 7) Matchmaking for this game isn’t that great so I’ll leave it up to you to figure out how best to schedule and play your games. All I need are results for the first round by Friday 11/2/07 at 6 PM. One suggested way to matchmake is to create a room, invite your opponent, and then close out of the room. Let the other person invite you and enter their room ASAP.

MEGA Battle Royal!

It didn’t take much time but some ambitious EoJ players are already starting to get tournaments rolling. It’s great to see that the fans surrounding EoJ are really running with the ball here. It was only a matter of time before these types of things started to be organized.

PlayStation forum member N-Gage not only scores points for a hilariously ironic name, he scores points for attempting something the budding EoJ community has yet to see — a 100 man tournament. I imagine the picture represented to the left is what the actual tournament will look like. It’s so big, N-Gage dubbed it the “MEGA MEGA MEGA [EoJ] TOURNAMENT WITH PRIZES.” Right now, there are about 20 people signed up, which is good for the post only being up for less than a day. What kind of prizes you say? It doesn’t say but we do have the rules for all you crafty strategists:

Rules for the “MEGA MEGA MEGA [EoJ] TOURNAMENT WITH PRIZES”

• Play will be open for anyone with the EoJ game and a deck of cards.
• The tournament is aiming for a November 17th start date (PS3’s b-day), 9:30 p.m., EST but it won’t begin until all 100 spots are filled.
• The tournament ends when there is a winner standing on a heap of 99 people.
• To prove you are legit, N-Gage will have to see your 30 cards over a video conference to make sure you aren’t copying cards with a felt tip marker.
• Schedules will be sent out a week prior to commencement and you have to be online at your assigned time within 20 minutes otherwise you forfeit.
